What if I don’t have photography
If you don't have photography ready, you can book a Playdate with me ($333) to go through what you might need and talk creative direction. But I do need photography ready to go to begin. We used to be more lax about this but it causes a lot of issues if you don't have photos that are an accurate representation of the brand and the photographic direction you're taking — that can, at the very least, stand in if new images are being shot. If I'm working with placeholder images, it will be your responsibility to swap out all images once you have them.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
DO YOU ONLY WORK ON SHOPIFY, AS A PLATFORM?
Yes! I used to also work on Squarespace (and still know all about that platform) but it's not good for e-comm.

Do you work with Shopify Plus?
Yep, I definitely have. Shopify Plus is usually a down-the-road jump for most clients because it's quite expensive monthly and the kind of features it provides are advanced. If we're beginning with that level of complexity, it would fall into custom project territory though ($30K +), not The Plot.
DO YOU REVIEW DATA IF WE'RE REBUILDING OUR EXISTING SITE?
If you have data, absolutely. We'd likely use one of our conversations to discuss insights from this data as well as other learnings from operating your site for however long you have + combing through reviews or social comments. You'll have qualitative data as well as quantitative. Both are important.
I also like to encourage people to talk to staff in their shops if they have a shop because these folks are frontline communicators & hold a lot of insights. There are even things you can do in advance of working together like using a heat mapping app so we can see how people are using your site, where they're dropping off, etc. If, however, your site is pretty low quality, this isn't necessarily a good use of our energy. It probably won't tell us very much.

Do I need branding? What if I only have a logo?
Yes, you do need a brand to work on web with me. It’d hard to get very far without it.

DO YOU ADD NEW OR MODIFY EXISTING PRODUCT FOR US?
No! Good question! Adding or modifying products is a big job, depending on how many SKUs you have, and it's a budget killer. But not only that, I believe it's important for you to know how to do this yourself.
I prepare how-to materials on how to either add or modify products with our new system. There will always be something to do, whether it's re-tagging or adding content into metafields or repurposing the vendor field, etc. I also set up all the infrastructure, like adding all the relevant metafields, creating the tagging system, but leave you & your team to the nitty gritty of going through the catalogue and updating it. (Another common use of the third Playdate is a session with your staff on this topic.)
HOW MANY DEVELOPMENT HOURS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE?
Here's the thing. If I said you get 20 hours of development hours would you have any idea what this represents? Does it sound like a lot or a little? (I've had custom projects run over 100 dev hours, for reference, a month of full time work or more.) I rarely talk about hours because I am not delivering you my time, which feels very transactional, so much as I am delivering you a powerful transformation around e-comm in your business. You get access to my years of experience doing this. Years of learning, coaching, reading, experimenting. I have so many tricks up my sleeve lol, ways of using features creatively, avoiding a lot of building from scratch. You get access to things like code banks, custom features that I've developed over time and recycle and customize for you because this is efficient. If I charged you to custom write every line of code from scratch it would cost a lot. This is also why theme selection is so critical. What I do is put together premium & powerful features and designs, tailored to your business.
